Frequently asked questions

What’s happening with Opsgenie and when will it impact customers?

Since 2018, we have been working to embed Opsgenie’s functionality across the Atlassian platform and products so our customers can further accelerate the pace of work between their Dev and IT operations teams from one unified platform. Now, Opsgenie’s capabilities are being moved to Jira Service Management.

Existing customers will be able to continue to use Opsgenie without interruption until April 5th, 2027. At this point, Opsgenie will be shut down, and the product will no longer be accessible; any customer data in Opsgenie that has not been moved will also be deleted.

Opsgenie customers have until April 5th, 2027 to complete their move to Jira Service Management. All Opsgenie customers are impacted by this announcement.

What are my migration options as an Opsgenie customer?

Existing Opsgenie customers will have the option to easily move their data to Jira Service Management. Owners can navigate to Settings > Migrate Opsgenie to view the recommended migration path for your site, generated based on your team’s current usage of Opsgenie. The move to Jira Service Management is largely automated for most customers.

How long does it take to migrate from Opsgenie to Jira Service Management?

Your data and configurations move from Opsgenie to Jira Service Management automatically once the move process has been started by an Opsgenie owner who is also a site admin of your account.

Once the destination product and plan are finalized by your Opsgenie owner or site admin, and after your billing admin approves the new billing amount, Atlassian will automatically sync most of your Opsgenie data and configurations with your destination Jira Service Management instance on the date you select for your migration.

Depending on your existing Opsgenie setup and usage, you may need to complete manual steps to finish the process, and you will be provided support documentation that walks you through these steps.

Review the support documentation.

How can I set up my Opsgenie move?

Opsgenie Owners can navigate to Settings > Plan your move to be guided through the migration process.

In some cases, there are factors that could delay scheduling your move. Read more here.

Can I try Jira Service Management before moving?

Yes. Before you schedule your move, you can start a trial of Jira Service Management from within Opsgenie. To view your recommended Jira Service Management plan, navigate in Opsgenie to Settings > Plan your move.

After you schedule your Opsgenie move, you can start a temporary trial of the product you have selected to migrate to. Enterprise trials need to be requested via Atlassian Support.

What will my cost be after moving?

Please go to Opsgenie, then navigate to Settings > Plan your move to review pricing for your recommended plan, or contact your account manager. From there, you can also compare the features in the recommended plan with other options, so you can select the best plan for your team’s needs.

Additionally, in order to minimize potential price differences between Opsgenie and Jira Service Management, you may be eligible for a limited-time promotional discount.

What happens to my existing Opsgenie subscription?

Your existing Opsgenie contract will be honored for your subscription term, or until the end of support effective date of Apr 5, 2027.

As of the end of sale effective date of Jun 4, 2025, it is no longer possible upgrade or downgrade your Opsgenie edition (Essentials to Premium, or Premium to Enterprise) or add more sites.

You will still be able to purchase additional seats of Opsgenie until the end of support effective date, Apr 5, 2027.

What happens to the remainder of my Opsgenie subscription term if I move to Jira Service Management?

For customers who do not have Jira Service Management on the same site: If you choose to move before the end of your existing Opsgenie subscription, you will receive an extension of your destination product subscription that’s equivalent to the time remaining on your Opsgenie subscription.

Please note that this only applies to customers with more than 30 days remaining on their Opsgenie subscription.

For customers who do have existing Jira Service Management on the same site: If you choose to move before the end of your existing Opsgenie subscription, you may contact support or your account manager to determine if your account is eligible for a refund.

What are my options as a Jira Service Management Data Center customer?

As part of its cloud-first strategy, Atlassian has been working to embed Opsgenie’s functionality across the Atlassian platform and products. Data Center customers will have a two-year window to migrate to Jira Service Management Cloud in order to maintain functionalities such as alerts and on-call management.

Additionally, Opsgenie Owners can find recommended migration destinations for their Opsgenie sites by going to Settings > Plan your move, based on their team's usage

To maintain continuous coverage, your team can take one of the following migration paths before end of support on April 5th, 2027:

  1. Move Jira Service Management Data Center to Cloud, then move Opsgenie
  2. Move your existing Opsgenie instance to a new Jira Service Management Cloud site

Learn more about migrating to cloud or contact us.

If you decide against moving your current Opsgenie to Jira Service Management Cloud, you will retain complete access to Opsgenie until the end of its support date. Should you choose not to move by that deadline, you will still have the option to directly download your Opsgenie data.

Choosing not to move your Opsgenie site by April 5th, 2027 will impact a number of incident management features. To learn more please refer to our support documentation.
