Why are you making these changes? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

We have always championed solutions that set our customers up for success. We introduced Data Center more than ten years ago to meet the requirements of our enterprise server customers, and it has been great for the needs of the last decade. But to set our customers up for success in the AI era, customers need so much more: data that is unified and structured, interconnected products, AI that’s embedded in their workflows, and greater security -- for peak performance and long-term.

Organizations of every size, industry, and complexity are already experiencing these benefits on Atlassian Cloud. Make no mistake, cloud is a massive unlock for our customers. Across the world, they are benefitting from faster time to value, reduced costs, and AI-enabled teamwork which is now essential to staying competitive. More than 2 million Atlassian users are already powering their teamwork with Atlassian AI, reporting getting work done up to four times faster.

That 99% of Atlassian customers are in cloud, or on a path there – including 75% of regulated and enterprise customers – speaks to the deep investments we’ve made to ensure our platform is enterprise-grade. Since announcing the end of support for Server we've more than tripled user scale, expanded compliance and data residency, introduced specific cloud deployment requirements like FedRAMP-compliant and single-tenant cloud, and strengthened our platform through a recent partnership with Google Cloud.

With the vast majority of our customers in cloud or on a path to cloud, and demanding even more innovation to meet this moment, we are shifting our full focus to the cloud and announcing that Atlassian Data Center products will reach end of life on March 28, 2029. This cloud focus will allow us to innovate even faster and ship even more benefits to help you stay ahead.

To continue using existing Atlassian products, Atlassian customers will need to move to cloud. However, we understand that some organizations face unique challenges or requirements that may delay their move to the cloud. For these situations, we’re committed to offering extended maintenance for certain Data Center customers by exception after March 28, 2029, ensuring you have the flexibility and support you need for a successful transformation.

While these changes are designed to support your organization’s long-term success, we also understand that transitions like this can be challenging.

At this stage, your options are:

1. Migrate to cloud

Moving to cloud enables you to connect your tech teams with the rest of your organization to accelerate innovation, welcome AI to the team, and maximize team impact on the business.

The Atlassian Migration Program can help you assess your landscape, plan ahead, prepare your data, and test the migration before making the move to cloud. Additional guidance includes:

We highly recommend engaging directly with your Account Executive if you haven’t already begun to do so.

We have dedicated teams of Atlassians and a wide selection of highly specialized solution partners available to assist you with hands on support to plan for your migration and set yourself up for success in the cloud. Please reach out to us to get started.

2. [Bitbucket customers only] Move to the new Bitbucket Hybrid License option

We understand that your source code is sensitive, and you may have concerns about moving it to the cloud. In order to provide you with maximum flexibility for this data, we are launching a new Bitbucket license option that will give you access to both Bitbucket Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud, giving you the flexibility to operate in whichever environment your business prefers.

At the conclusion of your existing Bitbucket Data Center license and upon renewal to the Bitbucket dual-license, your self-managed source code will remain right where it was on your Bitbucket Data Center subscription. You can learn more about this offering here.

3. Continue on Data Center for up to 3 years

Ultimately, in order to continue using Atlassian products, you will need to move to cloud. We understand that some customers have requirements that are not currently available in Atlassian cloud and will need flexibility in their timelines. To ensure work is not interrupted, we will allow some customers to purchase multi-year Data Center extensions beyond March 28, 2029 by exception only. Please contact your Account Executive or reach out to Atlassian to discuss migration options.

You can also start benefiting from the innovation in Atlassian Cloud with cloud to Data Center connectors for Rovo and Atlassian Guard Premium. Or, get an overview of your whole existing portfolio to prepare for a cloud migration with portfolio insights.

We recommend starting to explore cloud as soon as possible to allow for enough time to prepare for a smooth transition. See what’s new and what’s coming in cloud on our cloud platform roadmap.

Over the past few years we’ve expanded our Cloud Platform, apps and feature set to meet the needs of more organizations. If you haven’t spoken with anyone about Atlassian Cloud recently, we recommend exploring our Cloud Platform vs Data Center comparison page or check out our cloud roadmap, as it may well be that we have added or plan to add support for your requirements. You can also visit our Trust Center to learn the latest on security, compliance, and resilience.

We understand that some organizations require specific cloud deployment alternatives to meet data sovereignty requirements, to handle classified data, or to meet other compliance needs. We are committed to partnering with you to meet your needs over the next three years. For example, we've recently announced support for cloud deployment models outside of our commercial multi-tenant cloud - this will lay a foundation to help us offer other deployment options in the future. With this in mind, we are currently exploring options for organizations with more complex requirements.

Atlassian is committed to developing solutions that meet the needs of all customers. We encourage you to engage with your Account Executive directly so that we can ensure our product roadmap meets your needs. We understand that some organizations face unique challenges or requirements that may delay their move to the cloud. For these situations, we’re committed to offering extended maintenance for certain Data Center customers by exception after March 28, 2029, ensuring you have the flexibility and support you need for a successful transformation. Please reach out to Atlassian to discuss migration options.

What happens if I don’t take action by March 28, 2029? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

If you do not take action to engage with us and create a plan beforehand, your Data Center license will expire on March 28, 2029 at 23:59 PST and your Data Center environment will become read-only. You will not be able to use your Data Center products after your subscription is expired.

You are welcome to continue renewing your existing Data Center subscription after March 30, 2026. However, renewals cannot extend beyond March 28, 2029, and will be prorated to that date if a 12-month renewal goes past that date.

How long will I have access to my Data Center data after my subscription expires? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

After your Data Center subscription expires, your data will continue to be available in a read-only state. However, product updates and support will no longer be available in case of technical issues.

We strongly advise against keeping your product running in a read-only mode while connected to the internet, since no new security bug fixes will be provided after the end of life date for Data Center.

To ensure continued access to your historical Data Center data long term, we recommend backing up your data to ensure continued access after your subscription expires.

We’ve customized our Data Center instance to meet our business requirements - will Cloud offer the same capabilities? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

The capabilities of Atlassian’s Cloud Platform are different than Data Center. Most of our current cloud customers have found they were able to significantly reduce complexity through native Cloud Platform functionality.

However, we know every team has different needs. Atlassian Cloud is highly customizable, with options to support both technical and non-technical team members in tailoring a best-fit solution.

Technical team members can build complex custom apps thanks to Atlassian’s hosted development platform, Forge. Forge makes it possible to build a fully-functional custom app or integration in just a few hours, with Atlassian-managed hosting, multiple development environments, and API authentication built-in.

Non-technical team members can also build custom AI agents, automation workflows and more with Atlassian’s low code/no code Studio app. The Studio app is designed to let tech-savvy business users discover, build, and manage custom solutions across Atlassian apps using low-code/no-code (LCNC) capabilities, such as automation, agents (virtual teammates), assets, and hubs. Studio is powered by AI and natural language, enabling users to rapidly create anything from simple automations to sophisticated, tailored apps for their teams and organizations.

What are some new features and innovations in cloud? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Our investment in cloud has been accelerating over the past few years. In fact, Atlassian shipped more than 1,000 new features for cloud in 2024, at a rate of 8,000 deployments per month, vastly accelerating Atlassian’s delivery of innovation value for all customers.

Atlassian Cloud allows you to replace disconnected products with a powerful AI-powered platform that aligns teams, and empowers them with the knowledge and technology they need to stay ahead of what’s next.

On cloud, you can align work to goals, plan and track work, unleash knowledge, and add AI team to the team to drive greater alignment, data utilization, and productivity. Consolidate teamwork and all data related to teamwork onto one intelligent platform that brings consistency and context to your whole teamwork experience.

In cloud, you can unlock entirely new use cases. You can:

  • Replace meetings with Loom
  • Collaborate visually with whiteboards
  • Hand over tasks to AI agents with Rovo
  • Drive greater alignment with platform apps like Goals, Teams, and Home
  • Unify and intelligently connect data across all your apps – whether it’s your Atlassian, Marketplace, or other preferred apps in a single shared data model called the Teamwork Graph

And there’s lots more on the way. A major reason we’re sharpening our focus on cloud is to accelerate our innovation and provide you with a world-class cloud experience.

To get a bird’s eye view of what’s shipped most recently and what’s on the way, check out our latest founder keynote from Team '25 Anaheim.

My Data Center product relies heavily on automations and REST APIs. How can I learn if Cloud can scale to meet my requirements? Are there documented limits to the number of requests the product can handle? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Like on Data Center, Atlassian limits some components of automation in the cloud to ensure optimal performance. You can read details on automation limits in cloud here.

We also limit the rate of REST API requests to ensure that services are reliable and responsive for you. You can learn more about rate limiting and prepare to ensure optimal performance for your customizations and integrations here.

For very large or complex use cases, we recommend working with our support and migration teams to assess your needs and plan for optimal performance in Cloud. Please reach out to Atlassian to discuss migration options.

Our Data Center products are at/beyond the current recommended guardrails for the products. Does Cloud provide similar guardrails? How do I know if Cloud will work well with our company's current Data Center instance size? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

In advance of migration, portfolio insights  can provide you with guidance to prepare your site for optimal cloud migration and performance.

During migration, we provide recommendations to help you clean up instances and optimize performance in the cloud.

To ensure your performance remains high as you scale after migrating to cloud, we place limits and guardrails on certain aspects of product usage for Jira Cloud. Admins can access a dashboard in the admin interface to see if their sites or projects are approaching limit or guardrail thresholds.

We highly recommend working with us on a Solution Design Engagement to ensure you are set up for optimal performance.

In addition to these limits and guardrails, customers on the Jira Cloud Enterprise or Premium plans can continue to optimize Jira Cloud performance using the Site Optimizer feature.

Site Optimizer provides administrators with a central hub to monitor, analyze, and optimize the health and performance of their Jira instances. Its main functions include:

Visualizing instance data: Site Optimizer displays how different attributes (like custom fields, issues, and project role permissions) are being used, and compares them to recommended thresholds. This helps admins quickly identify areas that may impact performance.

Bulk clean-up tools: Admins can see lists of attributes (e.g., custom fields, issues) with details on usage and recommendations for removal. They can archive or delete these attributes individually or in bulk, and restore them if needed.

Performance insights: By highlighting data shapes and usage patterns that risk slowing down the instance, Site Optimizer enables proactive management to maintain optimal performance and productivity.

Actionable guidance: The tool provides clear guidance and mitigation strategies, reducing the need for escalations to Atlassian Support and empowering admins to resolve performance issues themselves.

Currently, Site Optimizer is available for Jira Cloud Enterprise and Jira Premium and is accessed via the Jira system administration menu.

Limits, guardrails, and streamlining tools are key improvements built to empower admins to manage data growth, optimize site health, and maintain high performance as Jira scales.

If you have requirements beyond Atlassian’s current limits, please reach out to your Account Executive, or to Atlassian sales.

We currently leverage the Data Center products database (RDBMS) for reporting purposes. What alternatives are available in the Cloud for this purpose? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

In Atlassian Cloud, you do not have direct access to the underlying database (RDBMS) as you do in Data Center products. However, there are several alternatives available for reporting and data analysis, including native analytics:

  • Atlassian Analytics (available for Jira Cloud Enterprise, JSM Cloud Enterprise, and Confluence Cloud Enterprise) provides advanced reporting and visualization capabilities. It allows you to create custom dashboards and reports using data from your Atlassian Cloud apps.
  • Atlassian Data Lake: For eligible Cloud plans, Atlassian offers a Data Lake feature that aggregates data from multiple Atlassian products and makes it available for analysis using tools like Atlassian Analytics or external BI tools.
  • REST APIs: Atlassian Cloud apps (Jira, Confluence, etc.) provide robust REST APIs that allow you to extract data for reporting purposes. You can use these APIs to pull data into your own reporting tools or data warehouses.
  • Data export: Jira and Confluence Cloud allow you to export certain data (e.g., issues, pages) in formats like CSV or JSON, which can then be imported into other reporting tools.
  • Marketplace apps: If Atlassian’s robust native capabilities are not suitable for your specific needs, there are also several third-party apps available on the Atlassian Marketplace that offer enhanced reporting, data export, and analytics capabilities for Cloud apps. See Reporting apps on the Atlassian Marketplace for details.
Today we have multiple tools tracking performance and availability of our Data Center environments, and alerting us whenever there’s a problem. What options are available for monitoring the performance and availability in Cloud? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

Jira and Confluence Cloud are designed to handle large data volumes, but there are important considerations and some differences compared to Data Center, that are important to consider when migrating.

If you are looking for monitoring specifically, System Health (currently in EAP/beta) is Atlassian’s new, authenticated, customer-facing incident communication portal designed specifically for organization admins in Atlassian Cloud. Its main purpose is to provide real-time, personalized visibility into the health and status of your Atlassian cloud products, going beyond the generic updates available on the public status page.

Additionally, Jira Cloud admins are able to leverage Site Optimizer which is a central hub to monitor, analyze, and optimize the health and performance of their Jira instances. Its main functions include:

  • Visualizing instance data: Site Optimizer displays how different attributes (like custom fields, issues, and project role permissions) are being used, and compares them to recommended thresholds. This helps admins quickly identify areas that may impact performance.
  • Bulk clean-up tools: Admins can see lists of attributes (e.g., custom fields, issues) with details on usage and recommendations for removal. They can archive or delete these attributes individually or in bulk, and restore them if needed.
  • Performance insights: By highlighting data shapes and usage patterns that risk slowing down the instance, Site Optimizer enables proactive management to maintain optimal performance and productivity.
  • Actionable guidance: The tool provides clear guidance and mitigation strategies, reducing the need for escalations to Atlassian Support and empowering admins to resolve performance issues themselves.

If you have questions or concerns about performance during the migration process or in cloud in general:

  • Please reach out to Atlassian. Atlassian’s migration and support teams can help assess your data shape and plan for optimal performance in cloud.
  • We also recommend that, during migration, you take advantage of portfolio insights to ensure you land in cloud with performant and reliable environment and data shape.

Data Center End of Life Purchasing & Licensing

Does Atlassian offer any incentives or discounts for migrating from Data Center to cloud? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

During this transition, we will continue to support our existing cloud incentives and discounts.

We highly recommend that, if you have an Account Executive, you engage directly with your Account Executive to discuss your options when migrating as we have several discounts we can offer and areas we can provide flexibility to meet your needs.

For all customers:

  • FY26 Cloud Enterprise Edition discount: Customers purchasing the Cloud Enterprise Edition by June 2027 may be eligible for a 10-20% discount for the first year of their cloud subscription. Contact us for more information.
  • Cloud migration trials: Explore Cloud features and test run your migration for an extended time. Unlike a 7-day Cloud trial, Cloud migration trials last the duration of your Data Center subscription.
  • Step-up credits: To help eliminate double payment when migrating to Cloud, we are offering qualified customers a credit equal to the pro-rated value of unused Data Center maintenance contracts.

For larger customers:

  • Dual licensing: We often see larger customers take longer to migrate, given the size and complexity of their Atlassian footprint. In order to give you adequate time to complete your migration and avoid double paying for your Cloud and Data Center subscription, we offer dual licensing.

For Academic, Community, and open source customers:

How can I estimate the price differential between my Data Center environment and cloud? Copy link to heading Copied! Show

We highly recommend working with your Account Executive or contacting Atlassian sales to develop a thorough value assessment so you can get a full sense of the business case for cloud, and opportunities for savings.

The per user cost of cloud is higher than Data Center, but what you get for this in cloud is significantly more impactful. In cloud, you get access to more apps, connected by shared, intelligent platform experiences that drive better decision-making, organizational alignment, and individual productivity.

Customers have reported savings of up to $2.2 million on a single project thanks to improved developer efficiency in cloud, not to mention savings on point solutions that can be replaced by native features in Atlassian Cloud like Analytics or Whiteboards. Plus, we’ve seen organizations improve alignment, productivity, knowledge discovery, and other critical levers that can help you do more with less.

Thi sis because of our strategy as a product-led company. If you check our Earnings Reports or published Financial Statements, you’ll see that Atlassian’s Annual R&D investment remains a significant percentage of our Annual Revenues, meaning we invest our revenue back in innovation that directly benefits our cloud customers. When you compare that R&D spend to our Annual Sales & Marketing spend, you’ll see that it's the direct inverse of most every other “sales driven” Enterprise Software vendor, making Atlassian’s cost/value best in industry. And it is in our Cloud Platform that this value shows up the most.

If you’re migrating both Jira and Confluence, you can also explore our Teamwork Collection, which offers Jira and Confluence Cloud plus Loom for better async communication. To get a quick overview, you can see list prices online:
