Project management approaches
There’s no single strategy for completing a successful project—just like there’s more than one way to cook an egg. That’s where project management approaches come in. These are broad ways to organize and manage projects, and they fall into three main categories:
- Predictive approaches involve detailed planning at the start and follow a fixed sequence of steps. It works best when project requirements are clear and unlikely to change.
- Adaptive approaches are flexible and allow teams to adjust plans as the project progresses. It’s ideal when requirements may change or aren’t fully known from the beginning.
- Hybrid approaches combine elements of both predictive and adaptive methods. Teams might use predictive planning for some phases and switch to adaptive methods for others, balancing structure with flexibility.
